Kids Learn Bridge at the YJCC Wednesday, Mar 14 3:30p Bergen County YJCC, Washington Township It’s cool—and educational—to play bridge! Bridge is a game full of strategy, tactics and teamwork, part science, part math, part logic and all fun!
Children in grades 5 to 8 can learn the game from accredited bridge teacher Susan Koster at the Bergen County YJCC, 605 Pascack Road, Township of Washington
Bridge is gaining in popularity at elementary and middle schools as well as at community centers around the country. According to an article by Winnie Hu in the April 24, 2011 New York Times, educators see bridge as “a way to both reinforce math and problem-solving skills and to socialize a generation of children raised on solitary pastimes like playing video games and listening to iPods.” Bridge is a challenging game, involving memorization of rules along with drawing on logic and collaboration. The Times article also notes that bridge was introduced in 2011 at New York City’s Anderson School, a citywide school for gifted and talented students.
The fee for the bridge class is $120 for YJCC members, $150 for non-members. For more information, contact Wendy Fox at (201) 666-6610, ext. 5810 or firstname.lastname@example.org . Click here for a registration form : http://www.yjcc.org/pdf/Bridge_kids.pdf
