The Boys and Girls Club of Garfield, New Jersey recently held their 2nd annual Young Pretenders talent show. The talent show was comprised of the members attending the tremendously successful 21st Century Community Learning Center .
Over 300 guests joined us at Garfield Middle school on Friday, February 17, 2012 to support students showcasing talent through original dance routines, singing, and instrumental performances. The students put on a show to remember.
Parents and classmates were able to enjoy a fun filled evening, and students of the Boys and Girls Club expressed their creative talents. The kids opened the show with a farewell ceremony for Club Alumni and former 2002 Youth of the Year Lisa Logan who has dedicated more than 10 years of service to the club. “Lisa shows the kind of dedication that we try to teach our students;” said Club Project Director, Todd Vanderpool.
The Club integrates academics and life skills in all activities. Students that were apprehensive about performing in front of their peers were still able to participate. Students were assigned jobs including stage crew, film crew and lighting director. Students also used inventive methods to create music with school desks, pens and pencils. Parents and guest were amazed to see their children in action. All the participants received a certificate of achievement and showmanship.
